A worm gear reducer is mainly composed of a worm gear or gear, shaft, bearing, and housing. The worm gears or gears, shafts, and bearings are supported by the housing. Therefore, the worm gear reducer housing must have enough strength and hardness, to avoid the transmission quality degradation caused by the housing deformation after being loaded. Worm gear reducer is widely used because of its durability, large transmission ratio, small volume, superior self-locking ability, and the simple structure for manufacturing, but its transmission efficiency is relatively low.

The box body of worm gear reducer is usually made of cast iron or aluminum alloy, only a few heavy-duty reducers are made of cast steel. The worm gear reducer housing consists of a seat and cover. Bearing holes of the housing must be accurate to ensure the correctness of the relative position of gear axes. The housing seat is bolted to the cover and uses two locating pins to precisely fix the relative position of the housing cover and seat. Bolts position layout should be reasonable to consider the operation space of the spanner.
